Black Friday Power Tool Deals: What to Expect and How to Spot Real Discounts

Black Friday is one of the best times of year to buy power tools, especially battery bundles and combo kits. It’s also when “special buy” packaging and inflated reference prices are most common. Here’s what to expect and how to tell a real deal from a dressed-up one. We’ll keep this page updated with live deals through the season.

When tool deals usually start

Big-box retailers typically roll out Black Friday tool promotions well before the day itself, often in early to mid November, with more waves leading up to Thanksgiving and through Cyber Monday. Online retailers and tool dealers usually follow with their own offers. Exact dates vary every year, and some of the best bundles sell out early.

The deals worth waiting for

  • Battery bundles with a free tool. Usually the best value of the season if you’re staying on a platform. See how those promos work.
  • Combo kits. Two-, three- and four-tool kits get some of the deepest discounts, and they’re the cheapest way onto a new platform.
  • Bonus-battery kits. Kits that include an extra battery at the regular kit price.
  • Big shop tools. Miter saws, table saws, compressors and outdoor power equipment often see their lowest prices of the year.

How to spot a fake discount

  1. Compare the full model number. Holiday kits are often unique SKUs. A “special buy” may include smaller batteries, a brushed tool instead of brushless, or a bag instead of a hard case. Compare specs, not just names.
  2. Ignore the “was” price. Check what the tool has actually sold for in recent months. Every deal on BargainArmy is judged against our own price records for exactly this reason.
  3. Work out the kit math. Subtract the going value of the batteries and charger to see what you’re paying for the tool. Our kit vs. bare-tool guide shows how.
  4. Check price-adjustment and return policies. Some retailers will refund the difference if the price drops soon after you buy. Policies vary by retailer and often exclude holiday promotions, so read the current terms.

Picking a platform before the sales

If you’re new to cordless tools, decide on a platform before Black Friday so you can jump on the right bundle. Our battery platform guide compares Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita, Ryobi and more.
